When To Shoot Your Fashion Campaigns

When To Shoot Your Fashion Campaigns?

Do you know what the Australian fashion calendar is?

I'm always that crazy person that is making models wear bikinis in winter and jumpers in 40'c heat (#photographerslife) because we need to shoot the next season's clothing before it needs to be in the stores and online.

Thankfully it is always much easier in Queensland but shooting fashion in Melbourne was a real struggle at times.

If you have your own fashion business whether that is B2B or B2C then you need to know when to shoot your campaigns to get the best out of your season ahead.

The fashion in our stores obviously follows the seasons and depending on whether you're in the Southern or Northern Hemisphere the season will be different.

One thing that is the same is that there is always lots of preparation that goes into each collection. There is designing, fashion tech packs, sourcing of fabrics (hopefully ethically sourced these days), sampling and prototypes, production and then campaign shoots and lookbook shoots.

The sequence of these changes slightly, depending on if you're B2B or B2C. If you're B2B you also need to add in getting orders from buyers so you know how much you are making in production.

So when do you do each of these steps? Here is a fabulous calendar created by Deepwear that gives you a month-by-month breakdown of what you need to have covered.

Of course with how fast fashion is, there is always new designs coming out all year long so, if you are out of sync with this calendar don't sweat it. There is also a whole collection known as 'seasonless clothing' that can be released any time of year and act as your brands staples.

So for all you Aussie business babes reading this, I will see you in Jan/Feb or June/July for all your editorial campaigns and lookbook shoots!

Cheers, Gold.
